The Spring Musical Tickets are ‘Poppin’ Off the Shelves

The Drama Club’s fall and spring productions are always a hit in the community, and this year is no exception. The students in publicity have had a busy week selling tickets and preparing to bring “Mary Poppins” to students, teachers and Edwardsville.

Publicity sponsor Cara Lane is satisfied with the ticket sales, despite the accelerated timeline of the show.

“Typically musicals are very popular so we do experience a higher volume of sales and more excitement and a sense of urgency with musicals,” she said. “That coupled with the fact that “Mary Poppins” is a children’s musical also tends to bring a wider variety of audiences out.”

Sophomore Jacqueline Glenn has been looking forward to this show since she learned about its production this spring.

“I’ve grown up to love “Mary Poppins,” so I was very excited when the drama department announced that it would be the spring musical,” she said. “Our school plays are always phenomenal and I love supporting one of the branches of the fine arts while having a good time with my friends.”

Junior Tessa Leapley, a member of the tech crew, is ready for next weekend and to showcase the club’s and the new drama teacher’s hard work.

“With it being Ms. Melton’s first year people are waiting to see if she upholds Mrs. Motley’s strict standards,” she said. “They’ll be thoroughly surprised about how much she’s achieved in one of our shortest times to prepare for a show.”

With every show almost sold out, the community is showing its obvious excitement for “Mary Poppins,” and Ms. Lane sees its appeal.

“I would think that with the quality and caliber of our productions also based on the fact that the tickets are five dollars, it’s a really inexpensive way to spend a evening with your family and have a really entertaining experience,” she said.

The Drama Club presents “Mary Poppins” on March 16 at 7 p.m., March 17 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and March 18 at 2 p.m.
