Netflix Library Becomes More and More Original Content

New year, new binge-worthy shows and movies on Netflix.

Netflix has upped the amount of original content on their streaming service for 2018. They are planned to release more than 20 Netflix Originals in January alone.

Films and shows not produced by Netflix will still been added to their library this month, such as “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.”

However, one of their new show releases is “The Frozen Dead,” which premiered on Netflix Jan. 1. The show is a French crime series that has investigators pursuing a serial killer upon mountain ranges.

Movies are also joining the options of things to watch. “Before I Wake” is a Netflix Original horror movie.

“I thought the movie was good, had a nice plot, was entertaining and was enjoyable to watch,” Junior Luca Krug said. “I feel that since their original content is entertaining, and it is their site, they can do it, and that they should keep doing it.”

According to The Verge, Netflix plans to spend $8 billion to make its selection 50 percent original by the end of 2018.

“A sizable chunk of that $8 billion will go toward producing 30 new anime series and 80 new original films,” Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said to The Verge.

This might not be hard because some of their shows have switched over to the streaming service Hulu. The show “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” left Netflix for Hulu in December of 2017, according to the New York Times.

But is original content all there is to expect for the future of Netflix?

Not this year, but as the company progresses with critically acclaimed shows like “Black Mirror” and “Stranger Things,” Netflix will continue putting out what subscribers likely watch.

But don’t worry; “Cars 3” is coming to Netflix Jan. 31.
