EHS Classes You Probably Didn’t Know Existed

Between turf and lawn management class, public speaking and weightlifting, students have limitless opportunities to experience something new right here at EHS.

“Turf and lawn management class was probably the most fun class I took all year last year, other than study hall,” said Jake Holscher, a former EHS student.

Turf and lawn management is a class taught by Mr. Davin, an EHS teacher. And according to Holscher, many of his classmates enjoyed the hard work they had to put in to maintain the turf, while also maintaining an A in the class.

While some might consider this class an “easy A,” one class some students struggle more with is public speaking.

Whether a student chooses to take the public speaking course or not, Ms. Lane, the teacher of the class, would argue that public speaking is a skill everyone should acquire.

From writing a speech about a personal experience, to taking part in a mock job interview, students are asked to prepare for nearly anything.

“My favorite thing about the class was witnessing everyone’s transformations at the end,” said Madison Richey, a senior at EHS. “I noticed that I became more comfortable speaking in front of others and found myself enjoying giving presentations classes.”

Weightlifting may not help prepare students for academic success in college; however, it will help the student become more physically fit.

Weightlifting is typically taken by upperclassmen, and is taught by a P.E. teacher in the weightlifting room, which is located above the A gym.  The course includes training in deadlifting, bench pressing and squats, among other exercises.

Whether a student decides to take any of these classes or not, any one of them would teach the student valuable life skills, while adding a little bit of variety to their day.
