The final week.  If you haven’t heard that statement at least five times, you don’t know a senior.  Graduating high school is a huge milestone.

So, before the seniors part from high school and gain adult responsibilities, they planned one last activity as kids.  Senior week is always a favorite around the school, and it is a tradition to have one the final week of school.

This year, the seniors created a 300-member GroupMe chat and gave ideas to be voted on.  After much debate and lots of unneeded bickering, the first poll was made.  With a full week, the class needed five days of spirit, and Hawaiian day was always the final day while the second-to-last day was decided to be college day.   Once the votes were cast, the three highest choices for the other three days were chosen.

We thought we had it all figured out until one person stated that they did not get to vote.  That started a whole argument on whose fault it was and which days were picked.  Finally, a second poll was made with every idea people gave in the group.  The three options that came from this poll were America day, blackout day, and ‘90s day.

America day is relatively self-explanatory.  The seniors dress up with red, white and blue and find any article of clothing that seems fitting to the theme.  This day is by far my favorite selected spirit day.  It shows pride and is very fun if people go all out and show as much outward pride possible.

The second day, blackout day, was not on the original ballot.  The senior class wore all black.  This day is definitely the worst day all week.  For people that don’t own any black, like me, this was the hardest day to find clothing for and the most boring.

On Wednesday, the class chose ‘90s day.  The idea is cute because this class is the last to be born in the 90s, but the execution was mediocre.  Most students don’t know the fashion trends in the 1990s and dressed up like people from the 1970s or ‘80s.  It would have been better to have a decade day so people had more leeway to dress how they wanted.

Thursday is especially exciting as we wear our college clothing.  It’s about showing pride and confidence in our education for the next four years.

Finally, Friday is Hawaiian day.  Starting with the Tour de Grove, a scooter, bike and skateboard procession to the school, seniors will dress with Hawaiian shirts and swimwear.  It fits perfectly for the next summer vacation.

Although these days were not all hits with the seniors, they will truly make this last week the best week ever.
