Dating: It Is That Bad

They clog our hallways, they ruin our class pictures, and their constant PDA disrupts our learning process.

About 61 percent of teenagers claim to have been in a relationship in the past year, according to actforyouth.net. That is three out of five teenagers who are potentially engaging in this gross, over affectionate encounter.

The problem isn’t with teen couples in general but with the ones who refuse to keep their hands off of one another. There is never a reason for that much affection all the time.

When I see couples all over, each other it dampens my mood just a little bit each time. It isn’t because I am a bitter, jealous single person. Even when I was in a relationship (if you can call it that) the lovey-dovey couples still grossed me out.

I’m sure a piece of me looks at those couples and wishes for second that it were me. But then I gather my wisdom back up and remember that all that affection is just sickening.

Don’t get me wrong; I love romantic comedies and my favorite genre of music is R&B love songs. I am a hopeless romantic at heart. So why do I hate couples that are big on PDA?

It’s the obnoxiousness of the couples. We get it: you like each other. But when you guys stop using the pronoun “I” and now everything is referred to as “we” you’ve just crossed the line.

“I’m glad my boyfriend doesn’t go here so I don’t even have to worry about being one of those [couples],” senior Jordan Daniels said.

If these couples can’t seem to keep their hands off of each other then some rules need to be set in place:

  1. Hand holding is alright as long as you aren’t inconveniencing others around you. I’m talking you couples who refuse to unlink in the hallways and become the reason it gets clogged up.
  2. Kissing is alright I guess but please limit it to a quick peck until you are in private and not around a bunch of people who want to vomit.
  3. Stay on first base, need I remind you that people can see you.
  4. Do not even attempt to expose skin. If clothes should cover it, keep it that way.
  5. For school dances, if they won’t show it on Disney Channel then don’t do it at school.

So really my problems aren’t with couples but with rule breakers and that really isn’t such a bad thing. Just keep your PDA to yourself and we will get along just fine.
