Tigers Give Talents, Haircuts for Charity

A few teachers around EHS are missing some hair after the Tigers Giving Forward event on Wednesday, and it’s for a good cause.

Tigers Giving Forward was an EPIC and student council event on Wednesday afternoon, which had a talent show and teachers volunteered to have their heads shaved to donate hair to cancer patients.

“All the money goes towards Tigers Giving Forward,” senior Lexi Trimm said, ”which is an organization that gives money to assist families with people that have cancer.”

For $5, students were able to enjoy a talent show, and watch teachers’ hair get cut off, and there was a raffle for students to be the ones to cut their hair. The talent show was previously a lip-synch battle, but it has changed over the years.

“We wanted to do the talent show again,” Trimm said, “but like the aspect of it being for a good cause like Tigers Giving Forward.”

The talent show showcased many talents from EHS students.  One performance was by sophomore Quilonda Thomas, who sang “Everything I Wanted” by Billie Eilish and “Stand Up” by Cynthia Erivo. Thomas finished with resounding applause from the audience.

“Honestly, it took a lot of courage being out there, but it was honestly fun just letting other people hear my voice,” Thomas said. “You never know what you’re doing for somebody else.”

After the talent show, teachers took the stage – not to display their talent, but for a haircut. Science teacher Julia Doll, math teacher Dan Morrissey and monitor Jessica Dewald’s heads were all shaved by the end of the night.

Senior Ryan Koester cut a few of Mrs. Doll’s braids on the auditorium stage after being drawn for a raffle, which were $1 each.

“I think it’s really great that they are able.to help so many different people in so many different ways throughout the whole event,” Koester said. “It’s really cool that all of those teachers were willing to give up their hair for such a good cause”
