People of all ages flooded Miner Park on Saturday, Sept. 3 to enjoy all that the Go Gold Festival had to offer.

Although it’s the second year Painting the Town Gold, an organization designed to help fund pediatric cancer, has held the Go Gold Festival, it’s the first year it has been an all-day event.

The festival kicks off the organization’s efforts through September. Over 700 people attended and about $3500 was raised, which covered the event cost.

The event featured entertainment by the dance and cheer teams, Grogan’s Academy of Martial Arts and performances by local musicians and groups, like Exit 12.

Food and drink vendors included Old Towne Tavern, KLM Concessions and Cookies for a Cause. Peel Wood Fired Pizza made root beer floats, and Student Council had volunteers serving snow cones.

Attendees could also choose from barbecue, baked goods and fried sweets.

“I was there to help a great cause,” junior Student Council volunteer Ian McLean said.

Twenty-one-year-old Maggie Pauk was there to support her brother as he participated in the Grogan’s Martial Arts demonstration, but she also took time to visit the different vendors.

“It was uplifting to see so many people supporting a great cause,” Pauk said. “Plus, the weather was perfect, so it was a lot of fun.”

Founder of Painting the Town Gold, senior Todd Schultz said he is pleased with the turnout.

“The community we live in is what made it so successful,” Schultz said. “We would not have success if it weren’t for all that not only the people of the cities, but also the governments, do for us.”
