StuCo Begins ‘Journey To Atlantis’

It’s almost that time of the year again.  Homecoming is less than 10 weeks away.  Student Council members have been working since the beginning of summer to prepare for this year’s EHS homecoming.

Junior Puja Patel confirmed that this year’s theme is Journey To Atlantis.   “We [Student Council] normally release it soon after school starts,” Patel said.

“We started preparing the first week of summer and began by picking the theme.  Over the summer, we met once a week as a full council to discuss ideas and plans for homecoming,” Patel said.

Once school started, the intensity picked up.  “Now we meet twice a week to prepare decorations and to make sure everything is ready to go,” Patel said.

According to Patel, Student Council members split up into smaller groups during the preparation process to take on different tasks.  “…These groups are in charge of decorating a specific area for homecoming but we talk about what’s going on in each section at meetings,” Patel said.

Similarly to others, Patel’s favorite thing about homecoming is the big day itself, rather than all of the homecoming week activities.  “My favorite part is homecoming day and being able to see everything come together and witnessing the final product of everyone’s hard work.”

In recent years, students were required to show their student ID badges in order to purchase tickets; however, this year’s ticket sale process will be slightly different.

“Student council and prom will be using a digital scanner to record the list of people that bought a ticket to any event,” senior Stephanie Gaytan said.  “Now, instead of checking off your name, and making sure you’re in the book, all we have to do is scan you’re ID to double check you bought a ticket, and ta-da:  you’re in.”

Gaytan said the new ticket process is more efficient, and student council is excited about it.  “Students will need their IDs to get into homecoming just like any other year…” Gaytan said.

According to Principle Dennis Cramsey, students will be mandated to show their ID at any time during the evening.  Students are required to have the ID badge on their person at all times throughout the night.

“I’ve always loved being part of such a huge event that takes place at the high school, and this year as Student Council’s vice president of school events, I will be on the floor emceeing the dodgeball tournament, the Fox 2 News rally, the homecoming assembly, and a bunch of other events,” Gaytan said.  “Being seen as a type of leader in the school is an indescribable feeling for me and I can’t thank Student Council enough for placing me in that position.”
