EHS boys Golf Prepares for Sectionals After Regional Win

Jack Barker, Sports Editor

The EHS boys golf team did something that it has not done in two years: lift the regional champions plaque.

After losing to O’Fallon last year by a mere three strokes, the team would not be defeated this year, being carried by a second place finish from senior Nate Frey.

Frey shot an even 72 to tie O’Fallon’s Caden Cannon but would eventually lose in a one-hole playoff when he shot a bogey and Cannon earned a par. Frey wasn’t the sole leader for the team though.

Senior Trevor Laub managed a 75 while junior Hayden Moore posted a 77. The team collectively scored a 308 to just beat out second place O’Fallon who scored a 310.

“This gives us a lot of confidence going into the sectional and anything past that,” Frey said in an interview with the Intelligencer.

And confident is what they should be. The team will be playing their sectional match at a course they just competed on, on Oct. 5, Lick Creek Golf Course.

Adam Tyler, the boys head coach touched on the course in an interview with the intelligencer, saying that he wishes the sectional would “be there every year.” He says that it’s an extremely challenging course, especially when the weather comes in to play.

Tyler believes that only the best teams come out of that course advancing and hopes that the team can have their best round of golf at sectionals.
