Girls Golf Reflects on Memorable Season

With a conference winning record of 14-0, the girls golf team is looking past their heartbreaking end and focusing on what they accomplished this season.

“Even though the season didn’t end the way we would have hoped, we all know that the game of golf has its ups and downs,” senior Megan Quick said.

The team was short by a mere two strokes to advance to the state tournament.

“We were all really disappointed at how the season ended… but overall I’m very optimistic with how our team did throughout the season,” junior Kayla Weinacht said.

Binkley said that, with it being Coach Laboube’s season, she focused preparing them for the postseason.

“She knew our strengths and weaknesses and that we had a ton of potential. Yes, after a win she was proud of us, but she would take what she saw from us and make us harder to prepare for post season,” Binkley said. “…putting in more hard work and playing at sectionals was another bonus.”

The team placed back-to-back conference championships, a match record of 143, a sectional title and many personal records under their belts this season.

Weinacht and senior Jess Binkley achieved a personal best this season at the Gary Bair Memorial tournament on senior night.

“I shot a 75 and [Binkley] shot really well too [83]… It was probably my favorite moment because it was both of our best rounds and it was a really great day for us as well as the team,” she said.

For Binkley, her last season as a Tiger was the most memorable one because of the bonds she shared with her teammates.

“We worked hard and it showed… I think being so close helped our success throughout the season,” she said. “… There are no other girls I would have wanted to spend my last and most favorite season with.”
