EHS Embarks on Tiger Tour As New Semester Begins

Orange Rush shows up; Student Council brings the gear. Tiger Tour returns for the first week of the New Year and Student Council was prepared.

Tiger Tour is held during select weeks each season. Each day of Tiger Tour, Student Council promotes an EHS sport or performing arts event with the promise of EHS swag given out to students who attend.

With bowling on Tuesday, wrestling on Wednesday, ice hockey on Thursday and boys basketball on Friday, Tiger Tour packs this week full of sports. The handouts this week are: a tiger window decal, a tiger stress ball, orange-and-black gloves and rubber bracelets.

According to senior and Student Council President Mary Webb, Student Council doesn’t profit from the handouts at Tiger Tour. They consider what they’re willing to lose, brainstorm ideas and narrow down the list of ideas.

“We try to pick events that aren’t usually represented (by Orange Rush), like bowling or field hockey,” Webb said.

Sophomore bowler Amy Malcharek was thrilled to see bowling featured in Tiger Tour.

“We were a little nervous,” she said. “But in the long run, the team thought it was awesome to see other students come out and cheer us on.”

Malcharek hopes that excitement will continue throughout the rest of the season.

Even though bowling isn’t a popular spectator sport, Student Council tries to include everyone in the tour.

“It’s important that all the sports feel equal to the ones with the highest following,” Webb said. “To see even 20 people show up to a bowling match is so great.”

Webb hopes the first Tiger Tour of 2017 will get people excited about the rest of the year.

“I’m glad we’re doing it (in) early January,” she said. “This is the last stretch for seniors, and I think it’s important to start the semester off on a high note.”
