Billboard’s 2014 Top Artist

Entering a new year, it causes us to all pause and look back at the entirety of 2014. From Flappy Bird and Trivia crack to the music we listened to as a jam out session broke out in the car on the way to the mall, here are the top four artists of 2014.

One Direction

This handsome boy band ranked first for 2014’s top artist. These boys came up as the underdogs, sitting pretty on 44 different charts by the end of last year. Their newest album, Four, released in November of 2014 had five songs on the 44 different list.

Katy Perry

With her newest album, Prism, from 2013, one can only wonder how Katy Perry beat out Queen Bey. However, without a doubt, Katy Perry’s music video for “Dark Horse” coming in first had a lot to play in her reaching second on 2014’s top artist list.

Beyoncé

What kind of top artist list would this be without Queen Bey? It wouldn’t. Queen Bey released a Platinum edition of her latest album, Beyoncé, in 2014. Collectively at the end of last year, Queen Bey sat in her rightful place on 68 charts. Collectively placing her higher on the entire list than any of our other top ten artists, where she belongs.

Taylor Swift

This Princess of country music has recently been dabbling in hit pop singles. Starting with her newest album, 1989, where seven of her songs on that album made the top 100. “Blank Space” was number one for several weeks straight without a budging, although it was knocked down one the beginning of 2015 to number two.
