Keep Your Taste Buds Hot

You see old friends and sit down for a meal in an average sit-down restaurant, sharing past memories. As you glance down at your menu, all of your peers share the same thought: why would I pay $17.95 for a steak?

At the corner of Maryland and Euclid in the Central West End, you’ll stumble upon a dine-in establishment with reasonable prices and over-the-top entrees: Culpeppers.

When you enter the restaurant, you enter a man cave.

Near the tinted windows, two electric guitars hang with their amp strings, still plugged in, and you either hear oldies rock n’ roll or a metro-area band on the patio.

Every inch of space in the eatery is sports related, whether you’re staring into the six flat-screen TVs playing ESPN or the picture frames cloaking the walls. You see photos of the Cardinals crowding together after another one of their plenty World Series wins.

You’re about to experience your own victory as quesadillas, toasted ravioli, hot dogs, sandwiches, salads, catfish, and even Lobster Mac and Cheese are found here, all ranging between $8.49-$13.19. Their burgers, such as the Bacon Cheeseburger or the Bison burger, are very popular here, as is their chili.

Consistency is key when preparing chili, as any chef knows. Yet, Culpeppers has figured it out to a science. Macho-men at Super Bowl parties would soak their tortilla chips in this chili. It is when instantaneously, a kick of flavor hits your taste buds and you must keep savoring the dish. The delicate beans soften on your tongue, underneath seasoned tender ground beef, and you’re ordering another bowl.

Homemade French Onion soup is another item on the menu. There’s no cream, no sauce, but instead a thin, lighter soup of onion and bread crumbles underneath a thick, unbreakable layer of cheese coating the top of the bowl, and it’s the best of quality.

Of all these appetizers, nothing competes with their notorious wings.

There are four options for sizes and five options for flavors: Gold wings (tangy, with a southern sweet twist), Chipotle, Sweet and Spicy, Honey Mustard and Original Style. Original is the guaranteed best route.

Original Style is based upon your standard buffalo seasoning, but it is also unique and it can’t be recreated by a mother at home or a cook at an Applebees. The chicken bites are bursting with flavor, from the crispy crunch varnishing the outside to the juicy, supreme inside. Plus, there is no excess sauce, so there is no mess. Customers will never find a piece of this five-star boneless wing anything but perfection.

So come in and have a waitress guide you to your destination. Take a load off, order yourself ten wings, and dive in, but remember to savor every single bite.

You don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone. Once they’re gone and you’re exiting the restaurant doors, you’ll be finding time in your schedule for tomorrow, to yet again revisit your new favorite place.
