Weird Weather Marks Turbulent Transition into Spring Fashion

Is it time to break out those Saco sandals and floral blouses already? A scent of Spring has permeated throughout Edwardsville, causing many EHS students to get comfortable in wearing their shorts, tanks, sun dresses and the like. But it looks like the warmer might not last long, putting a halt to the incoming spring fashion.

Senior Abbey Rasche woke up this morning, took one look outside at the beaming sunshine and decided to wear jogging pants and a tank top to school. It only took one sour step outside of her house for her to reconsider her entire outfit.

“It was so cold,” Rasche said, “that I couldn’t believe that it was this sunny.” That deceiving, bright sunlight didn’t prepare you for the harsh cold that blew your mind and chilled your bones, did it? What can you expect? Welcome to the Midwest, where you don’t your hopes up for the weather.

“I had to throw on a pull-over,” she admits. “I was almost late…I should have checked the weather before I left.”

Albeit not the end of the world, this wacky weather’s wavering unpredictability has certainly inconvenienced a portion of EHS students. It’s 6 a.m, and it’d be a miracle if a high school student had the mental capacity (let alone time)  that early in the morning to check the temperature. What’s worse to the fashionistas of EHS, though, is the fact that they just don’t know when they can turn out that updated spring wardrobe.

“I bought these gorgeous shorts about…” senior Leah Wilson paused to think. “I guess it’s been a month since I bought them, and I’ve only wore them once.”

Spring fashion has seen a disappointing number opportunities to reveal itself, but that doesn’t entirely stop the fashionistas. Between winter and spring, there’s a small window to dress in “winter-spring” fashion, according to Harper’s BAZAAR.

Essentially, middling between the two seasons should be a tasteful combination of both fashions. Keep the solid tones of winter, but liven it up with the pastel colors of spring. Maybe introduce some print (florals may be too soon) to your wardrobe, that sort of thing. Sophomore Gabby Bentley described her winter-spring fashion as a “natural thing that happens.”

“I don’t really think about it, but people tell me that I always know what to wear,” Bentley said. “It is like an effortless thing that I don’t really pay attention to…Transitioning into spring, Instead of heavy layers I keep my layers light and happy.”

A look at the forecast next week again hints at warmer weather, and maybe then you’ll get into the groove with your spring fashion. But until then, check the weather before you leave the house. And don’t trust what it looks like outside your window to guide you on what to wear.

Thankfully, the dog days appear to be behind us… for now.
