St. Jude Goes Online

EHS Medical Careers Club has revamped “Team Up for St. Jude” into an online, paperless procedure.

“It’s not like last year when you had to fill out all those letters and do all that work,” junior Taylor Robinson, a member of Medical Careers Club, said. “It’s just like Twitter: make an account and you’re in.”

By cutting the amount of time spent on hand-writing dozens of letters, Medical Careers Club hopes to raise more money than ever before. “Once you start sending those emails, just watch your money rise,” Robinson said.

Contrary to what Medical Careers Club expected, the online registration has yielded low numbers. “It’s kind of slow in terms of registration,” Medical Careers Club sponsor Mrs. Weller said.

Mrs. Weller’s observation is echoed by some students like senior Lorren Rendlemen, who does not believe that the online transition will make the event more successful.

“It’s like prom and homecoming… no one has the time to go online and register,” Rendlemen said. “It’s less convenient for people who don’t have easy access to the internet.”

This isn’t to say that all hope is lost, according to Mrs. Weller. She reminded that “every year [Medical Careers Club] has raised over $25,000” for St. Jude. “That’s their goal, and they usually go well over that amount.”

“Team Up for St. Jude” raises money to help fund St. Jude’s Research Hospital’s fight against cancer. The event will be held on Nov. 22 in the EHS commons.
