After waiting 40 minutes or more in a line wrapped around the building students were relieved simply to enter the dance; however, some felt the dance did not live up to their expectations.
“Overall, the vibe was just off this year,” Junior Makenzie Tarr said, “I waited 40 minutes just to get in, only to have a DJ who didn’t play any good songs.”
Others had similar feelings about the music like sophomore Mark Hill.
“The DJ, I mean, he was doing his best. There was some room for improvement, but he got some hits in there,” Hill said.
“The problem was [Student Council] made a list of songs, and it never got sent to him,” student council president Lucy Schapman said, “We also had a tough time finding [a DJ] so the fact that we had one was heaven-sent.”
Although the DJ might’ve been a dull part of the night for some students like Hill and Tarr, the food was very well received.
“The food was so good. I actually got food three times, no hate, and it was like the best thing I’ve ever had,” Hill said, “I had like everything [Fusion Taco] offered,”
The food from Sneaky’s was also a favorite.
“I really liked the fried pickles they served, and having their signature sauce with them made it even better,” Tarr said.
Schapman thinks Bobby’s was also a hit among students. Generally, the food was popular, but there was not enough food to last the entire night. Fusion Taco was the first to run out, followed by Sneaky’s.
After fueling up on food, people made their way to the dance floor. Aside from the music, some students like junior Liv Warner found that the etiquette on the dance floor was lacking.
“Personally, I experienced some really poor etiquette on the dance floor,” Warner said, “My friend was completely pushed to the floor and if I hadn’t been holding her I’m afraid she would’ve been hurt.”
There are always large groups that form at homecoming while dancing, but typically people do their best not to push or shove others purposefully.
“I had to defend myself there…I had to root myself to the ground and put up my arms and give a little push back,” Hill said.
Although there were some setbacks, there were still plenty of people who got in and stayed the entire time.
Hill was one of those who partied from beginning to end. “I certainly did not leave early…I just left when they played ‘Bye Bye Bye’ because they were telling me to get out,” Hill said.
