Public Questions Grammy Voting Process After Night of Upsets

For any musician, getting a Grammy is essentially as good as it gets in terms of recognition.

However this year’s Grammys has been riddled with drama and has caused many people to question the validity of these awards.

Rumors have been going around regarding rigged award shows since award shows have been around.

However, after Deborah Dugan, the chief executive of the organization that runs the Grammy’s, was suspended, she told NBC that the show was, as a matter of fact, rigged.

“If there are certain artists that the producer would like [to perform] on the show, there are strong hints, influence, that might affect a select few in the nominating process,” Dugan said.

She also says that this is the reason that Ariana Grande was not nominated for some awards and won none during the award show, despite being heavily advertised as the show of the night.

Ed Sheeran is also allegedly being targeted by the same people and was kept out of the song of the year category because of it.

The Academy has denied these claims, saying they are “utterly untrue.”

“The Academy has rigorous and well-publicized protocols in place to ensure that voting is absolutely fair — and free of conflicts of interest. For Ms. Dugan to suggest anything to the contrary is simply not true,” the Academy said.

However, many people feel like Dugan’s comments answer a lot of questions that were raised during the Grammy’s.

Tyler, the Creator said in his speech that he didn’t feel like he should have gotten the award due to how he felt about the category he was nominated in.

Billie Eilish was spotted during the announcement of Album of the Year saying “Please don’t let it be me.”

The reason she said this is unknown.

“This is ridiculous, Billie is so scared of Ariana stans that she doesn’t want a Grammy.” said one twitter user.

Others speculate that Eilish felt that she also didn’t think she deserved the award over Grande, as she eluded in her speech.

Whatever the reason, only time will tell if the Grammys will change from here on out.
