EPIC hosted the annual Lip Sync Battle this past Friday in the auditorium. The event was an effort to raise money for Tigers Giving Forward, a charity that assists students and teachers in District 7 with chronic illnesses.

Hosts Maren McSparin and Jack Raffaele opened the event at 7 p.m.

“I loved hosting this year! I wish I could do it a lot more,” McSparin said. “Jack and I put a lot of work into the script and we really enjoyed having that opportunity. And I surprisingly didn’t get stressed or nervous about being up in front of people.”

Seniors Maya Noonan and Amy Malcherek lip synced and danced to “Single Ladies” by Beyonce. They earned second place.

“I was nervous but I was mostly just laughing,” Noonan said. “It was silly but fun. I was focused on not forgetting the motions and still remembering the words.”

Seniors Alanna Kaminsky, Joshua Perry and Erin Dowdy lip synced and danced to “I Need a Hero” by Bonnie Tyler. They earned first place.

“Josh and I started making our routine in December,” Kaminsky said. “We had many practices after school throughout January and all the way up to the night before the competition.”

Other acts included Alex Wernex with “Call Me Maybe,” Jaren Schuette with “Sauce it Up” and Hannah Stuart, Emma Hensley and Kiara Delgado with a 2018 pop remix.

EPIC plans to host another Lip Sync Battle next year.
