The Demi’s Lovatos Return for Dancing with the Tigers

“He’s mine,” senior Lindsey Hohlt screamed as senior Austin Huang, her boyfriend, gyrated to “Sorry Not Sorry” by Demi Lovato.

Lit by the glow of stage lights, donning gray hoodies and black sweatpants, the Demi’s Lovatos wowed at the talent show with their theatrical performance.

And now they’re back for round two at EHS’s Dancing with the Tigers.

Dancing with the Tigers is an annual contest in which various clubs compete for prize money, half of which is donated to the winning club; the other half goes to a select charity. This year, however, all of the proceeds went to the winning club.

In preparation for the talent show, the boys practiced religiously in Mollie Easley’s room.

“It smelled like a gym for a week,” she said. “(There was) way too much gyrating.”

The boys have since refined their act in preparation for the event.

“We’ve really thought a lot about our mistakes,” senior Tanner Hartman said.  The group ostensibly took Mrs. Easley’s commentary to heart.

And, of course, they tried to imagine what their idol, the Demi Lovato, would say.

“What inspired the name was how Demi’s always been there for us, we look up to her,” Hartman said in the gravest of tones. “The song spoke to us (too, and thus,) we named ourselves after her.”

After a series of warm-ups, much of which involved lunges and exaggerated shimmies from Hartman, the boys were ready to take the stage.

Amid flickering gymnasium lights, the math team stood center floor.

Senior Nick Trueb mimed the words the whole time, while senior Ryan Shustrin led the pack, pointing to indicate turns and spins.

The dance involved much hip-shaking accompanied by manly accoutrements like armpit hair and hoodies sans sleeves.

It ended with senior Christian Meinzen’s famous death drop and wild applause from the audience.

Meinzen would later take the floor with French Honor Society, who ultimately won, performing with a blue, red and white flower crown.

Though the Lovatos may not have reigned victorious, Shustrin’s “Don’t Quit” sweatshirt may indicate another performance before the year has concluded.
