As soon as Coronation began, all of the court members were introduced and proceeded to perform the Waltz. With tickets costing five dollars, the crowd was anxious to hear the name of EHS’ next Homecoming Queen and King.

The queen candidates included seniors Josie Arnett, Nina Weatherly, and Jane Russo. The King candidates included seniors Henry Lu, Clayton Schneider, and Pradeep Kandula. Each of the students had to undergo three separate voting periods to earn the candidate court spots.

On Saturday, Oct. 17, Russo and Lu were crowned with the royalty titles, leaving both awestruck and excited. For Russo, it was what led up to that moment that made the night.

“I felt so honored to be voted on by my peers. EHS is filled with so many terrific people and I was lucky enough to be voted on by them,” Russo said. “As time went on getting closer and closer to homecoming I tried to just live it up all the days leading to homecoming.”

Lu was just happy to have been supported by his friends.

“Every time I got closer, I became more and more excited. At that time, I couldn’t have been more proud to be classmates with such great people and I was very honored,” Lu said.

For Russo, the night was nerve racking.

“The night of coronation, I will admit to being super nervous. But I knew whatever happened, it was already an honor to be one queen candidate among the two other amazing ones,” Russo said.

When they announced the names, the pair did not know what to think.

“My mind was kind of just trying to process what had just happened and I was freaking out inside,” Russo said. “I was, of course, extremely happy but also a little embarrassed because I was all smiley and blushy.”

Winning the title was the last thing Lu had expected.

“It came so fast that I didn’t have time to comprehend and react to what was going on, and Jane had to snap me out of it and tell me to partner up with her,” Lu said.

From now on, the pair loves the support from their fellow peers.

“This all just means that I have amazing friends at EHS that I am so grateful to have. I was so fortunate to have been nominated onto a court with such amazing people.”

Lu was just happy to be supported by his friends.

“I feel so honored to know that the class I love and respect so much reciprocated the same feelings towards me,” Lu said. “It makes my senior year and my high school career that much more memorable.”
