Edwardsville girls golf team took second place in a six-team event Saturday August 17 at Rolling Hills Golf Course in Godfrey, IL.

According to The Intelligencer, Edwardsville’s “top pair,” senior Grace Daech and junior Jessica Benson, “shot an even-par 72, finishing four strokes behind O’Fallon’s Reagan Martin and Maddie Vanderheyden for top score.”

Shooting a 36, Benson and Daech tied for third place. Despite her results, Daech didn’t seem too proud of her performance.

“…I personally didn’t do that [well] with my ball striking and driver,” Daech said.

Aside from her self-critique, Daech kept her apparent positive vibes about her pairing and the team’s overall skills.

“I love my pairing with Jessica. Every time we hit a bad shot we would laugh about it and people we played probably thought we were crazy. I am very confident in my team because we can all do [well] and can always recover from a bad shot.”

“Last year, the Tigers and the Panthers battled for supremacy in the Southwestern Conference…,” The Intelligencer reported.

The battle of dominance seemed to make an appearance at Saturday’s tournament when EHS scored a 220, only 10 points behind O’Fallon, who scored a 110, placing first.

Following the Kick-Off Benson stated enthusiastically about this season, “I feel confident… I am very excited for what my senior year will bring for my team and I.”

Benson responded to her feelings about her pairing with Daech and said she felt that she and Daech made a “great team.”

“Our score was third best overall with +1,” Benson explained.

The Benson-Daech duo has fun on and off the course while still keeping their focus and could be a force to be reckoned with throughout the season with the encouragement of their team.
