American politics have always been turbulent, but never before has an administration been so vile and evil, and yet elected officials remain silent and disconnected.
Since President Donald Trump took office in January 2025, the U.S. has experienced turmoil. In the last four months, the president has increased tariffs, contributed to stock market instability, targeted small businesses, enforced mass deportation and detention, attempted to end birthright citizenship, cut government functions, expanded executive power, withdrew from health organizations, targeted political opponents, initiated military conflicts and insulted the pope, calling him “weak.”
As much as Trump may be at fault, he appears to have no intention of stopping, so the responsibility lies with legislators to stop him, yet no real change has occurred. Lawmakers are idly endorsing his actions by refusing to act.
There have been four impeachment attempts, none of which have reached more than 32% support in the House, according to Free Speech for People. Both Democrats and Republicans have abstained from action, even when given the opportunity to act.
Since the first impeachment attempt in May 2025, the administration accelerated the removal of career civil servants and federal watchdogs, as well as expanded DOGE to unprecedented levels of reach over federal institutions.
Since the second impeachment attempt in December 2025, the administration has expanded executive war powers and authorized the use of troops for domestic law enforcement.
Since the third impeachment attempt in April 2026, the administration withdrew from multiple ceasefire talks, began investigations into major networks covering the impeachment push and further expanded executive power, increasing tensions and condemning moral voices such as the pope.
This problem can no longer be allowed to fester. With a fourth attempt incoming, filed by Rep. John Larson, there has been no better time to act. Whether a lawmaker represents Democrats or Republicans, the judgment should be clear. Murder is murder. Kidnapping is kidnapping. It does not matter whether one is red or blue.
If the government continues on the path it’s on, refusing to push for change, the rights guaranteed to Americans will cease to exist, as they already have for many affected by this administration.
There is no more spineless a group than politicians when faced with the choice of defending Americans from tyranny or remaining idle.
