On Nov. 6, white tablecloths adorned tables set to honor special people—the men and women who have served (and currently serve) our nation.
The Library Advisory Board hosted the annual Veteran’s breakfast for the community, but other clubs helped. NHS provided food, Interact club hosted “cell phones for soldiers,” FFA created the floral centerpieces, and EHS South helped with greeting.
“You could tell they were all very excited to be here. They were all very polite,” senior Eliza Pauk said.
The event began with a welcome and the Pledge of Allegiance. Immediately following, breakfast funded by NHS was served.
“I’m a healthy person, so I stick to the good stuff,” Sgt. Jamal Joseph Harris said.
After a hearty meal with music by the orchestra included, the EHS chamber singers were introduced. During the Armed Forces Salute, veterans were asked to stand for the song representing their branch of service.
“With the choir singing and the veterans standing up, you could see some of them mouthing the words,” Pauk said.
After one more song, NHS President Emily Lange gave credit to the contributing clubs and thanked the veterans for their honor and loyalty. Senior Mollie Cook led the American flag raffle as the closing event.
“It’s always good to be able to meet other veterans in the community,” Sgt. Dunn said.
