Countless new singers have their one hit wonders play on the radio and then disappear; only a handful have the tenacity to prosper in the music industry.  Jhene Aiko Efuru Chilombo (Jhene Aiko) is one artist hip hop has been introduced to that proves to be well on her way to stardom.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, the multi-racial musician launched her career in the early 2000s, with soundtrack hits for movies and shows such as “The Proud Family”, “Barbershop” and “You Got Served”. Upon receiving more recognition for her work, she released her first music video to her song “No L.O.V.E.” and made her first appearance on BET’s “106 & Park” at age 15.

As Jhene matured, hardships impacted her ambitions and she decided to take a break to focus on school. Years later in 2007, she was back on her feet and prepared to sky rocket into hip hop world. In 2011, she released her first mix tape, Sailing Souls, on her website Jheneaiko.com, featuring collaborations with popular artists such as Drake, Miguel and Kanye West.

Continuing to climb to the top, Jhene still works with the influential rapper Drake. On his latest album, Nothing Was the Same, released in 2013, Jhene lent her melodious vocals to three tracks including “Wu-Tang Forever”, “From Time” and “Own It”.

After working with current stars, she decided it was her own time to shine, releasing her first official album, Sail Out, in 2013.

The seven-song album features songs ranging from strong, personal ballads to feel-good, lively songs. Having only been released for four months, Sail Out shows the star’s true potential. The album received almost 4.5 out of 5 stars in ITunes’ ratings. The reviews made by purchasers have also commended Jhene for her hard work.

ITunes user, SokeyBear, gave the album 5 stars. “Ms. Aiko has a promising new style with a real feel-good sound,” the user wrote. “Her sound is so slick, soft and attracts you to her world and it’s a beautiful, peaceful place.”

Jhene has worked hard throughout her life to get where she is today, never giving up and pursuing her life’s goals. The future looks bright for her, and the possibilities seem endless.
