Student council has been busy at work planning this year’s “Roaring 20s” themed homecoming.

With planning starting around the beginning of summer and ending right on the day of homecoming, there’s a lot that goes into the process. Before they started designing decorations like the entrance and centerpieces, council members decided on a theme.

“The first part of choosing a theme is making sure our school or other schools haven’t used it in the last few years,” sophomore council member, Xavier Wilson, said. “After that, we all submit ideas in our GroupMe and vote on the ones we like best.”

Junior council member, Megan Kalb, added on by saying this year’s theme “won the majority vote by a landslide,” because they knew it would be a “different experience from last year.”

Kalb also highlighted the differences in this year’s homecoming, specifically for people like her who haven’t experienced a “normal” homecoming yet.

“This homecoming is going to be different for a lot of people because it isn’t completely outside,” she said. “We also prepared some things I don’t think anyone has seen before.”

Those won’t be announced until sometime closer to the date of homecoming. But, according to Jamie Kupferer, student council sponsor and supervisor, there will still be some similarities, like the free food from food trucks and fun photo opportunities.

Although Miss Kupferer is the supervisor, she said the students actually do the majority of the work regarding décor and theme.

“I often joke that I am just the adult in the room,” she said. “I also become the voice of reason when they might not think about the issues within our school that adults might think about, so things like inclusion…and appropriateness for school.”

And with the students having more control, it makes them more eager to display their creativity.

“I’m most excited to see how everything comes together,” Kalb says. “I’m also very excited for all of the hard work we’ve put into this to be shown to everyone.”
