The baseball team traveled 2 and a half hours to Metamora, Ill. last weekend after their tournament in Kentucky was rained out.

The Tigers attained two wins at Metamora High School on Friday, Apr. 21, first defeating Peoria Notre Dame 6-3 and then Metamora 8-4.

The Tigers now boast a 14-3 record.

“Everyone was hyped to get on a charter bus and play games farther way,” senior Andrew Yancik said.

In the second inning of the game against Peoria Notre Dame, Yancik got a leadoff double, following up in the third inning with an RBI single.

Freshman Drake Wescott and senior Joel Quirin each had a hit and an RBI.

Wescott is expected to be a key player during his next three years on the team.

In the Metamora game, the Tigers were down 4-2 by the end of the fourth inning.

But in an eventful fifth inning, senior Dylan Burris, senior Will Messer, Quirin and Wescott each scored, resulting in a four-run inning that pushed the team ahead 6-2.

Burris attained another run in the following inning with an RBI triple.

Burris said he thought the team played well despite the high winds and 40-degree temperature.

Messer had a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

Yancik said the atmosphere in the dugout was uplifting.

“I think that’s when we play best—while we have fun competing.”
