Owen Wilson Turns from Comedy Star to Action Hero in ‘No Escape’

Being able to see a movie before it comes out is a rarity for most people, unless you go to the movies as often as my family does. So when my mom got an e-mail saying that we earned two free movie tickets to the screening of “No Escape,” I was excited.

Before we got the tickets, I had never even heard of this movie so I had to make sure it was worth my one night off of work. So, of course, I visited IMDB and found that Owen Wilson was staring in one of his first ever serious films.

We have all seen Wilson in movies like “Wedding Crashers” and “Starsky and Hutch.” Most people know of his presence in the movie “Marley and Me” and how there was not a dry eye in the theater, but “No Escape” took his acting career to a whole new level.

When watching an actor in so many funny and light hearted movies, it is almost bizarre to see him in such a serious movie. Wilson was not serious the whole movie, though. In the beginning, Wilson was shown on a plane with his two daughters and wife and was joking around and had the whole theater laughing with the jokes. He may have been playing in a serious movie, but they found a way Wilson could still pull up his roots with a dash of comedy.

The movie is set in modern day Asia and immediately after the opening credits, people began getting murdered, which is not something that lacks during this film. This movie follows Wilson, who plays Jake Dwyer, and his wife Annie Dwyer, who is played by Lake Bell, through Asia as they try to cross the border to Vietnam to try to get out of the middle of a civil war.

The movie is full of murder and had me throwing my hands up and covering my eyes throughout multiple scenes, but is a very unique and intriguing movie. The movie comes out on Aug. 26 and has not had that much media attention yet has a 94 percent “want to see” rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is a good review considering Rotten Tomatoes is one of the most critical media sites there is.

With the end of summer here, this movie helps the warm weather end with a bang with a suspense and action filled film.
