Fairy Tale Brought to Life in ‘Cinderella’

“Cinderella” has been one of the most mesmerizing story tales since the first movie came out in 1950. But now, it has all changed thanks to director Kenneth Branagh.

For my whole life “Cinderella” has been the kind of fantasy every little girl wanted, even if she was not our favorite princess. So when I, a 17-year-old, heard “Cinderella” was being remade I was a little skeptical. But that went away as soon as the movie began.

The narrator, the amazing Helena Bonham Carter, began talking about a beautiful child named Ella. They showed the gorgeous child with her two loving parents. The thing that was different between the classic and the remake was that the newer one showed her childhood. The classic just said her parents had died but did not show how much she truly adored her parents. This change was little, but I loved it.

As the movie progressed, viewers met the evil step-mother and her wretched step-sisters. The step-mother, Cate Blanchett, had by far the most amazing costumes throughout the whole movie. Her dresses were gorgeous and extravagant with a bold red lipstick matching every single one. Cinderella, played by Lily James, had costumes that were just as pretty, but not nearly as outlandish.

The new film stuck to the original storyline throughout the whole story except for a few minor details. Cinderella was not always her name, it was given to her by her step-sisters after she looked like she had rolled around in cinder because of how dirty she was, and after getting the new name, she met Prince “Kit.”

This gave fairy tales a new meaning to be able to see actual people instead of cartoons. I absolutely loved this movie and the way it showed a different aspect of the beautiful Cinderella’s life.
