Seniors Bid Farewell to EHS Pitch

The turf is moist with the day’s rainfall, and the weather is still overcast as the Tiger boy’s soccer team laces up for their final home match against Belleville West.

“Its an emotional feeling,” said senior Sam Watts. “It doesn’t seem right, knowing that we’re going to play our last game at EHS.”

The Tigers made sure to make the most out of it.

Led by senior Brent Heinlein scoring a hat trick (3 goals), one of the most rare feats in soccer, the Tigers roared to a 3-0 victory over the Maroons. The victory means the Tigers dominated the SWC and finished their conference season undefeated.

“It was an unbelievable way to finish off an unbelievable conference season,” Heinlein said.

A total of 12 seniors on this year’s squad hope to keep their season going in victorious fashion.

They now have to focus on their state tournament, which kicks off with regionals next Tuesday.

Edwardsville head coach Mark Heiderscheid hopes that the team (especially Heinlein) can continue their conference success into the post season.

“It’s really important that we play together,” Heiderscheid said. “(Senior Night) really showed how great an all around team performance can be.”

The Tigers hope to kick their way to more success as the rest of their season draws closer and closer to an end.
