Annual Color Run Lives up to Hype

When I heard that The Color Run was the happiest 5k on the planet, I was skeptical to say the least. How could running or walking three miles possibly be happy?

Well, whatever it is that the folks who put on The Color Run do to make this 5k so happy, they need to keep doing it.

On April 16, St. Louis was the host of The Color Run. The run took place downtown and it was by far the best day in a long time.

Everything was spot on, the workers were friendly, the weather was lovely, the organization was superb; it was all stellar.

My goal for the day was to get as colored as possible and the workers there helped me achieve my goal. It’s safe to say that I looked like an ogre because of how much green paint I had on me at the end of the run.

Another thing the workers did that made my day so much better was let me have my turn throwing the paint on other people. I simply asked and they were more than happy to make sure I was having the best time possible.

Not only were the workers looking out for me, so was Mother Nature. The weather for the race was incredible. It was sunny and close to 80 degrees. Now if I would have actually run the race, I’d probably be a bit warm. But since I walked my way to the finish line, I was comfortable.

Because the race was so early in the day (yes 8 a.m. is early), it didn’t get too hot until the end of the race. I think they did that on purpose and I’m glad they did.

That’s not the only thing that was planned well, however; the entire setup was very easy to understand and everything went smoothly. The race was set up to start at 8 a.m., but they had groups start the race over a stretch of time. If you didn’t want to start the race early, you could go to the pre race jam party to help pump you up for the run or walk ahead.

The only thing that disappointed me about the color run was the lack of music on the course. If they could add some motivating tunes, that would pump everyone up a little more and make the day even better.

All I know is that I cannot wait until I have another opportunity to run (or walk) in the Color Run.
If you still don’t believe that this is the happiest 5k on the planet, try it out. You’ll love it.
