Free food, music and games are three offers that not many high school student would pass up. Instead of relying on word of mouth, Rotary Interact Club put their trust in those offers to draw new members to the club.

On Sept. 9 Interact threw the first Party on the Patio to show others what the club is all about.

“We have had smaller welcome parties in the past, but this year we decided to make it a school wide event and invite all potentially interested students,” senior and Interact Club President Mehak Baig said.

The club provided Little Caesar’s Pizza and beverages and offered activities such as giant Jenga, a balloon stomp, and a photo booth.

“I thought the activities offered were a great way to get people [who were already in the club] to participate more than normal,” junior member Maggie Brumback said.

While returning members got to know each other, potential members warmed up to the club.

“I liked that I could do the activities with my friends and make new friends in the process,” sophomore Micah Summer said.

Overall the Interact Officers felt the goal in reaching out to new members was met.

“I definitely think we got the underclassmen turnout we were hoping to attract,” senior and Interact Club Vice President Kendall Clark said.

Clark also thinks they accomplished their goal of welcoming new people to the club in a friendly, interactive way. Brumback hopes the event will continue because of the initial sense of community it creates.
“It’s a way for members to get to know each other and those around them better,” she said. “I really do think it worked effectively [because] it brought lots of people together, even if they were just there for the food.”
