My Chemical Romance Comes Back From the ‘Dead!’

If you play a G note on the piano, anyone who listened to mid-2000’s emo music will immediately turn their heads, expecting the anthem “Welcome to the Black Parade” by My Chemical Romance.

On September 23, MCR will be releasing the 10th anniversary edition of “The Black Parade” along with previously unreleased demos. The news came as a surprise to fans, because the band broke up in 2013, saying “it has come time for it to end.”

Over the summer, a teaser video was released with the upcoming date and a black flag in the background, causing much speculation as to what the announcement would be.

Although many were hoping for a reunion tour or brand new music, fans were still excited to hear the news, retweeting the video 150 thousand times and the official announcement of the re-release 53 thousand times.

“We’ve been really touched and blown away by the response to the teaser trailer,” the band’s twitter said. “…thanks so much for continuing to keep MCR in your minds and in your hearts.”

The band started when lead singer Gerard Way decided to rethink his career plan after the events of Sept. 11, 2001, choosing to pursue music. Fast forward four years and the band was opening for Green Day and co-headlining Warped Tour ‘05 with Fall Out Boy.

“The Black Parade” was created the year following as a concept album, telling the story of a man who is dying from cancer. The album is said to be a rock opera, taking on theatrical elements in style with bold and dramatic musical lines often compared to those of the band Queen.

This was the best-selling album of the band, reaching number two on the Billboard 200 and selling 240 thousand copies its first week.

Hopefully the album will live up to the hype, otherwise “I’m Not Okay (I Promise).”
